Boards Pier Solar About the Game
Pier Solar Collectors Guide?
19/02/2012 - 21:13
Regarding the hand painted map or guide?

For the map we should make sure first that they don't already have one. It's possible their artists created one as a template for the game. If they don't then I say "Hell yeah! Bring it on!" :) We will need a visual reference of the world as accuracy is key. Then we make it visually stunning :)

The guide is a different matter altogether, it really shouldn't be underestimated the amount of work that would be required. Commitment is paramount, once started it has to followed to the end, no quitting part way through. I think Fonzie's idea of polling it for a while with the possibility of setting up a workgroup is a good one. If at that point he asks for a template or page proof then we would have to give it some serious and thoughtful consideration.

It really would be an interesting challenge :)

It's not the best quality picture but it's somewhere to start. This week I'm unable to start anything. I'll be in touch soon.

Yup I like that idea and would buy one for sure. Based on the game manual it would be stellar and very pleasing! :P :cotcot

Using the beta rom of the game I was able to piece together the initial town.

Can always edit it later by taking out the little people, and by adding labels to homes an whatnot.

That works, editing the people out will be easy but Ideally if this thing were to happen, I would avoid putting text directly on to the image, as print quality will never be as sharp as what you see on screen due to dot gain! The image is very detailed, text would get lost or be difficult to differentiate not to mention it will take away from the design as a whole. I would suggest reference icons (or labels as you suggested) or numbers that reflect in a list printed outside the graphic. Another option would be fine lines leading to the outside of the image with reference text beside. I am not a huge fan of this style but it can work well if the page layout is designed from the beginning to accomodate it. An image like this could look fantastic in a double page spread. But the fold must be taken into account. printing across the gutter can lead to information being hidden during the binding process as it gets caught in the fold. Keeping the image to a single page means it will be a lot smaller, therefore ruling out text on it for sure as it may be to small to read. At the end of the day it would be good to showcase the artwork without cluttering it with text or to many icons.

Great job on the image, I can't see any seams at all :)

I was thinking of using this more as a base for an online guide than a printed one.

How low did you make the resolution? Looks less detailed than mine. However, that might be because the website isn't letting me zoom in...
