This game is beyond tedious.

Guess the DC version must feel a lot more polished then, because I thought the game (Genesis) was a little shoddy in polish, combat, convenience, writing, story, area design, everything. I haven't beaten the game yet (I'm at the big city) but I doubt the game is going to suddenly massively improve out of nowhere.

The guide lists all of the changes between the Genesis version and the HD. The HD is a little more polished, but the only changes that would really affect Meho is that a couple small towns that didn't have an inn apparently now have healers that perform the same function. Somehow I visited these towns and completely missed the healers.[:/]

Trial 2 is not so much skill based but rather luck and randomness. I hate that aspect of gameplay. an Element of being random. Theres nothing I can do to improve on this minigame, but just have to keep trying again and again. IMO, this is broken game mechanic here. im curious what you guys thought about trial 2.

I just got through this part. You said it yourself: it's Bomberman. I don't think of Bomberman as being based on luck, in fact it takes some skill and I'm sure there are expert Bomberman players out there who would love this part. Anyway, I've played Bomberman before so I got through Trial 2 on my first pass. It was Trial 3 that was the really hard stuff, but even there it just takes concentration. Trial 3 took me about 5 or 6 passes to get through it.

Pier Solar is the hardest game ever and feels like a grind fest until you realize items and levels in no way matter. Accessories are your friend. Also on the DC version just turn off the encounter rate to make it threw annoying areas. You don't need the exp.

I really don't get why people are saying this game was hard. I've played through it twice now, once for a regular play-through and another to test out the 16-bit graphics for the whole game and get the "That's Tim's Way!" quest completed. I think it's by far the easiest JRPG-style game I've ever played. As far as accessories go, you guys have played games like Final Fantasy VII and Shining Force II, right? My experience tells me accessories always make a huge difference in JRPGs if they come into play at all. You can't go into the final battle with a puny pocket knife equipped and expect to win at all.

Also extremely cheap rates at inns and for healers make this game a breeze. If you get to a city with an inn/healer, you really need to use it as an opportunity to grind and gold-farm a little bit so your characters are tough and you have the best equipment and items. Of course that's how it also works for any game of this variety. Just play it the same way you do every JRPG and you'll do just fine.

@acope42 are you playing the new version or the Genesis one??? In the new version have more places to heal plus the new save method that is inputed, I´m know that because I´m the one who place all the save games with Tulio and asked him to put new places to heal cause new players must think the game is too hard in this original form [:murto]

The only flaws in this game IMO is the bomberman trial AI is really cheap, annoying and too hard, and i can beat anybody at bomberman and it took me almost an hour to beat it. The other flaws are the switch hidden behind a pillar in a dungeon, I tought this was a ridiculous waste of time to randomly click where you cant see it. And the lack of variety in ennemies and always fighting the same combo of ennemies gets boring, but Pier solar is still my favorite genesis rpg (and phantasy star 4 too)

@kenshin_sp: I was playing the HP version, but as I mentioned before I somehow played all the way through the first time and missed all of those healers. I know this because I also got the guide book which makes mention of all of the changes between versions. I might as well have been playing the Genesis version. Anyway, I say it's the easiest JRPG style game I've played because you really don't need to do a whole lot of grinding at all to stay leveled up and beat the bosses. Overall I may have spent less than an hour grinding, although the only reason I was grinding was really to gold-farm so I could get better equipment and more items. As for Meho, which seems to be people's tough spot in the game, you may need to start running away there, but I find that Rudy is such an overpowered character that if you just focus your gather on his attacks the random encounters in Meho aren't so bad.

@PreZZ: Hmm, Pier Pyromar AI being too hard... Personally, I thought it could have stood being harder, but that's me. I think the only difference between versions is you can place bombs directly on top of enemies. Anyway, it was easy for me. The slip tiles were what was irritating. As for the levers hidden behind pillars you're mentioning, I don't remember that but I do remember a platform that landed right behind a pillar and you wouldn't have noticed it unless you happened to catch it moving. I admit, I needed the guide to figure that out. Yeah, this game I think it's fair to say has some issues with dungeon layouts. That said, I didn't have that many issues with it.

I don't see how anyone can say that Pier Solar is the easiest JRPG out there when some of the most well-loved/well-known JRPGs ever made are incredibly easy - FF6 and 7.

I think some of you may be mistaking difficulty with "grindy." Although with traditional JRPGs in general I dunno if there really is such a distinction.

I am thinking of grinding, and really I think that's the one common thread that factors into difficulty for all JRPG-style games. I don't know how you judge difficulty without focusing on necessity of grinding and mandatory battles because it's so key. Honestly, I think Pier Solar is probably a little easier than FF7. And I think it's a lot easier than Chrono Trigger. Admittedly I'm not that big of a JRPG player and haven't played every game, but at least the handful of Square Enix games I've played can have some ridiculous boss battles and that's really what I have in mind when I say it's comparatively easy. Defeating Bethina takes time and resources, but I feel that's all it really is. And you only need to be around level 25 for all characters to do well against her. I remember in Pokemon you have to be more like level 65 for the final boss and it takes a lot of grinding to get up there.

Maybe "easy" is a bad word. I should probably say it's fairly balanced. Besides maybe the beginning of Meho, I don't feel like there's a point where all of a sudden the battles were really hard. And I think Meho would have been easier if I just slowed down a bit and wasn't so desperate to get to the next big part of the story. But when I'm at Bethina I feel like I'm at the level I need to be at to take her down. They pace it well.

Look, that's my feelings on it. I'm not trying to be objective or say anyone is wrong. This is just what I got away from it.
